The Minnesota Highway Safety and Research Center (MHSRC) is a 160-acre facility that is the first of its kind in the North Central United States.

Its unique design, which is continually upgraded, caters to developing drivers in all vehicle classes through year-round programs that provide drivers with the opportunity to experience real-life scenarios in a controlled environment. The facility was designed by the Minnesota Department of Transportation and approved by the Minnesota Legislature.

Training at the Minnesota Highway Safety and Research Center first began in the fall of 1974 and has continued to expand and change over the years.
The mission of the Minnesota Highway Safety and Research Center is to provide educational activities which prevent financial loss, human trauma, and to promote the safe and efficient operation of the highway transportation system. We offer a variety of programs that serve all types of drivers. Law Enforcement, Snowmobile, Snow Plow, Bus, Construction Trucking, Advanced Driving, Novice Driver, and Driver Improvement are just a few of the types of programs the Minnesota Highway Safety and Research Center offers.
At present, the Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T) Board requires all pre-licensed officers to attend a driving program. All licensed officers must attend a pursuit driving course at least once every three years.
Several trucking companies and private fleets have begun to require all new drivers to attend the Advanced Driving Skill program before employment. This practice allows them to significantly decrease the number of accidents their employees and business would traditionally experience.
Several affiliated organizations also require advanced driver training on a continuing basis.
